Jackson Hole Fly Fishing from Alpine

FLY FISHING IN ALPINE, WY

Staging your adventure base camp in Alpine can be advantageous for serious anglers visiting the Jackson Hole area. With less crowds, and ample access to blue-ribbon fisheries – fly fishing opportunities abound when you base your Wyoming RV trip out of Alpine.

The Snake River

There’s no way the mighty Snake River couldn’t make the list. Above Palisades Reservoir, the Snake River Canyon rips with incredible whitewater; however, with a little exploration, it’s not hard to find burly, native Snake River Cutthroat in calmer seams near the bank.

While Alpine Valley RV Resort sits on the banks of the Snake River, there isn’t direct access from the resort. However, Sheep Gulch Boat Ramp is only 3.5 miles away, which marks the end of a 20 mile section of fantastic fishing as you drive upstream toward Hoback. Countless pull offs provide access to a diverse range of water. While we recommend simply exploring your options, fishing above West Table Boat Ramp offers slower water, where evenings can produce great dry fly fishing. Wading can be limited, but isn’t always necessary to be productive. If looking to float, please do further research into your options and aim a bit further north, as class IV rapids make this section extremely dangerous.

South Fork of the Snake River

Below Palisades is the world-famous South Fork of the Snake River. With 4,000 fish per square mile, this river attracts anglers from all over for its incredible dry fly action. Native Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout can all be found throughout this 66 mile stretch of water. Just 19 miles away from Alpine Valley RV Resort is the Palisades Reservoir dam, where this wonderful tailwater begins. From there on, plentiful access awaits for both wading and floating.

The Greys River

If you are looking for the quintessential western fly fishing experience, look no further. Joining with the Snake River right in front of our property, the Greys offers 50 miles of truly wonderful fishing starting right at the confluence. Access is as easy as it gets, with Greys River Road paralleling the stream for its entirety as it snakes deep into the mountains. Making for a beautiful drive, if nothing else, heading upstream a ways will lead to dreamlike wade fishing, where big, native Cutthroat are primarily caught on dry flies and terrestrials.

The Salt River

Where fly fishing dreams come true. Whether you float or wade, this river is worth your time. Nymphs and dries will offer a day of epic fishing, with the potential to catch a slam of Brown, Rainbow, Brook and Cutthroat Trout. But it’s the trophy Brown Trout that keeps local anglers obsessed. Streamers are the name of the game and a fish of a lifetime is as short as a 3 mile drive from our property.
