How to Plan Your Day Trip to Jackson

The real question is, what can’t you do in Jackson Hole in the summertime? Jackson has a family friendly, adventurous, relaxing, educational, and artistic activity for everyone. Whether you’re starting your day with a whitewater rafting trip right from Alpine Valley RV Resort with our sister company Dave Hansen Whitewater or hitting the road extra early, a scenic drive from Alpine through Snake River Canyon will land you in Jackson with endless opportunities for exploration in the Wyoming sun. When planning your trip to Jackson, it’s helpful to divide your day around which section of town you’ll be visiting; Snow King Mountain and downtown Jackson Hole, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, or Grand Teton National Park.

Snow King and Downtown Jackson

The closest to AVRV of our three recommendations is Snow King Mountain and downtown Jackson. Downtown Jackson will fill your cup with endless opportunities for espresso and baked goods, local bison burgers and microbrews, or basically any cuisine your heart desires. After satisfying your body’s cravings, walk the town square to fill your shopping fix. Shopping not your thing? Create a memory worth laughing about at Jackson Hole’s Old Time Photos, dress head to toe in western garb, and strike your best old west pose. After touring the town square, walk or drive just a few blocks to Snow King Mountain, the local’s favorite town hill for anything and everything active. Have your children in hand? Play a round of miniature golf, tear through the twists and turns of the Cowboy Coaster, glide down the classic alpine slide, test your balance on the alpine ropes course and zip line, or take a scenic gondola ride the summit and relax with a view of Grand Teton National Park. In the mood to sweat? Take a hike on one of Snow King’s many trails or rent a mountain bike and venture into Cache Creek from the base of the mountain. Finish your day in Jackson by catching the Town Square Shootout, the longest, continuously running gunfight in the United States presented by the Jackson Hole Playhouse and Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and depending on the day of the week, saddle up for the legendary Jackson Hole Rodeo.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

While Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is known for housing the best skiing and snowboarding in North America, their summer operations offers everything from craft cocktails to paragliding. Take the aerial tram and rise 4,139 vertical feet in 12 minutes to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain, where you can enjoy Corbet’s Cabin’s famous top of the world waffles, hike the Rock Springs Loop, Corbet’s Trail, Cody Bowl or Happy Hour Hike, or relax on the patio with sweeping views of the valley. If returning to the bottom of the mountain via the tram isn’t enough to fuel your adrenaline, take a different route down the mountain by paragliding from the top of the mountain, the largest tandem vertical drop in the United States. Once you’re down, enjoy lunch on one of Teton Village’s many patios. After lunch, rent a bike and either enjoy a ride down the paved bike path along Moose Wilson Road or flow around bermed corners at JHMR’s downhill bike park. Looking for something fun for the kiddos? The base of the mountain hosts a bungee trampoline and rock climbing wall, the mid-mountain has a ropes course which is fun for (almost) all ages, and the top of the gondola has one of only two Via Ferratas in the country.. Finish your day with a free game of disc golf at the base of the mountain, take a free ride up the gondola after 5pm for happy hour on the deck, or enjoy free live music in the commons every Sunday evening.

Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park is rich with wildlife, pristine lakes and rivers, over two hundred miles of trails and endless opportunities for adventure, relaxation and sightseeing. Start your day with a scenic float down the Snake River with our sister company, Dave Hansen Whitewater. Their 13-mile scenic float is nestled between Grand Teton National Park and the Bridger Teton National Forest, giving you the opportunity to relax on the river with the snow-capped Tetons as your backdrop and spot an osprey diving into the water for a cutthroat trout. After your float, continue to take in the beauty of the national park on a scenic drive and visit the Moose visitor center to learn about the history of the Tetons from a ranger. After having your knowledge filled from your rafting guides and national park employees, trek off on your own on one of Grand Teton National Park’s many miles of hiking trails. Jenny Lake and String Lake are introductory hiking loops with stunning views of the mountains and ample opportunities to dip in the water. Extend your hike by visiting Inspiration Point, one of the most popular hiking areas in Grand Teton National Park. Finish your day with dinner with a view on Dornan’s upper deck.
